The area around Biograd has been inhabited since prehistoric times, but it is thought that the town of Biograd was founded in the 9th century by Croats. There is no firm evidence that the Iilyrian and Roman Blandona was situated on the site of present day Biograd. Most probably Blandona lay at the foot of the Trojan earthworks, southeast of Kakma, 7 km from Biograd. In contrast to Zadar (Iader) and Nin (Aenona) Nadin and Karin, there is no Liburnian settlement in the Biograd area which has remained inhabited until the present day, nor has any name been retained. But it is known that the area around Biograd was part of the Liburnian culture and that it had trading links with Greece, Italy and entire Balkan peninsula.
